Robert’s wife Miriam’s health had taken a downturn, and Robert had become her primary caretaker. His days were spent preparing Miriam’s meals and trying to keep up at home, leaving him little time for the activities that keep him healthy like golfing and walking his dog. Robert was very eager to downsize and move into an independent living facility to make caring for Miriam easier, but she wanted to stay put because she couldn’t imagine how they would complete all of the necessary work to complete the transition.
Because Robert had fallen behind on home maintenance while caring for his wife, he was overwhelmed by the long list of things that would need to be done before the house could be put up for sale. Since they were moving from an 1800 sq. ft. home into a 600 sq. ft. apartment, they would need to part with a lot of things. Miriam also had 3 closets full of clothing and she didn’t want to give any of it up.
We started working with Robert and Miriam two months in advance of their move. Room by room, we systematically worked through the house grouping items into the categories “keep”, “estate sale”, “donate”, or “trash”. Once we had eliminated the possessions they didn’t need, we used a floor plan of their new residence to determine what furniture was best suited for the space. One full day was set aside to help Miriam sort through her 3 large closets of clothing. With our help, she was able to pare down her wardrobe to a manageable size that she felt happy with. After their move was complete we held a successful estate sale to profitably dispose of their unwanted items.
Here’s what Robert had to say about us:
It was refreshing to deal with a company that knows what they are doing, does it well and makes every effort to accommodate the client. When I called New Leaf Senior Transitions, I had no idea where to start and they were able put together a plan that made everything fall into place. They went above and beyond my expectations and were very reliable and conscientious. I especially appreciate how patient the staff was with my wife- she was very anxious about moving and they really knew how to keep her focused and relaxed about the move.
